I had quite a few people write me, to hear what the original danish smørrebrød looks like. So I take pleasure in sharing this photo from 1950 with you, it will appear in my coming book on smørrebrød.
As you see, there are quite a lot of elements, compared to Adam Aamanns modern style. And check out the amount of caviar. Oh, sweet yesterdays..
Next photo was taken this summer, as I toured Denmark to find the best places to eat smørrebrød. It shows, that many restaurants really stick to the old style, for better or worse.
